A history of achievements
For more than 40 years, Latco has been constantly seeking to develop quality products, investing in the development of new technologies and production process improvement. The history of success of Latco began in 1966, in the city of Cruzeiro do Oeste, Paraná state. It was there where the company started its activities producing butter and casein. Since then it has been at the homes of the Brazilian families daily.
Today the brand Latco is present in more than 12 Brazilian states through a complete and diverse line of products. Owning units installed in other 10 towns of Paraná, Santa Catarina and São Paulo state, and has gained national acknowledgement.
This diverse line of products is constituted by provolone, parmesan, steppe, gorgonzola, “minas” pattern, prato and mozzarella cheese, butters with and without salt, cream cheese, milk creams, long lifre whole and skim milk, among others. All these years of investments in researches and development of new products has turned Latco into a highly regarded national brand in the dairy segment. And that’s mainly because of the professionalization and dedication of its collaborators, milk producers, wrapping companies, and at last of all it partners. And you also take part of this history of success.

All the water used industrially at Latco is picked up from an artesian well or superficially.
Before its usage on the food process, the water suffers a disinfection process, aiming to destroy the entire bacteria load present on it to avoid transmission and infection of the goods.
The water to be used at the food industry is drinkable, in other words, it’s good for human consuption. The usage and addition of chlorine on water is the most common used process. Therefore, the addition of chlorine is defined as the break point, which is the addition of chlorine in small amounts under controlled conditions. This treatment is done to all the water that enters in the industrial process, where it’s possible to observe good free chlorine residual in the order of 2 to 4 ppm.
Treatment of effluents
Water is one the most remembered resources when dealing with environment pollution. That is to the fact that it is absolutely indispensible to human life and the main raw material to most industries. Water is a necessary resource to all life aspects and to the development of human activities. Therefore, the conservation of our hydro resources becomes important to avoid many social and environmental problems that cause significant impact over the aquatic life as well as the environment as a whole.
The casting of the effluent “in natural” on the hydro resources can cause many impacts such as: the eutrophization, the dissemination of many hydro transmitted diseases, the aggravation of the good quality water scarcity problem, ecological imbalance, among others. Thus, the collection, the treatment and the appropriate environment disposition of the effluents is fundamental to the improvement of the population’s health condition and a requirement to achieve sustainability.
It is crucial the existence of Effluent Treatment Stations (ETS) at industries and specially, the control methods, the technologies employed and the operation should be the most adequate possible so the polluted load and the volume of the effluents are minimized.
The treatment of industrial effluents is a technical-industrial process that consists of a series of physical, biological and chemical treatments.
At Latco units, the biological treatment process of the effluents is based on a process that happens in the nature, which has gained a global denomination of auto depuration or stabilization. Therefore, the effluent, after many steps of treatment, is released within the environment legislation parameters on a river next to the factory which supports the flow, avoiding the environment pollution in general over the form of unpleasant odors or landscape and underground water contamination, giving total safety for the environment.
Latco, worried about the environment preservation, has carried out a very important role in society and for the future of the planet by promoting actions that seek recycling. The recycling process consists on the separation of materials used for posterior reutilization, transforming them into excellent goods for the population consumption.
Therefore, Latco units classify these residues and sell them to some processing companies or recycling cooperatives, which collect and separate the residues to be distributed to other companies designated to process theses solid materials. The designated materials for recycling are: papers, cardboards and plastics originated from the packages, besides the metal.

Through techniques that apparently just make the day-to-day of the workers more pleasant, it is possible to gain a series of results: improvement in the performance, rationalization of the spaces and the respect for the people’s health.
It is known that a harmonic equilibrium will depend of the fulfillment of the joyful and healthy activities during the major part of your time, especially in environments where you stay most part of the day, like the work place, where the stress level is usually high. The opposite brings anxiety, lack of concentration and loss of efficiency and productive performance.
The administration of the daily stress has shown to be a vital toll for the new techniques of business administration, for it is proven that the improvement on the levels of life quality, based on critical situations above mentioned, it is a differential factor nowadays among the companies in competition for productivity, quality and commercial performance.
Latco, with unprecedented and innovated initiatives, invests in the implementation of Ergonomic Projects though many Prevention Programs for the Workers’ Health, aiming to improve life quality.
The projects in development and introduction are:

• Laboral Kinesiotherapy Program
The Laboral Kinesiotherapy is a set of specific short period exercises, with emphasis in mindful stretching to prevent osteomuscular diseases. These exercises aim to move the skeletal-muscle system and the improvement of the physic and psychic well-been of the collaborator.
Laboral Kinesiotherapy in the Company (Pause Gymnastic) is just the practice of physical activity orientated and directed at the work place, given at work time, seeking personal as well as work benefits.
At Latco these procedures are done 3 times per week, taking from 10 to 15 minutes, along all the company departments, and it’s important to mention that the exercises are specific to each department, using many tolls to its performance such as staffs, balls, hula hoops, among others.
• Posture Awareness Program
The development of Corporal Awareness improves people’s heath, intending to prevent posture imbalance. The corporal awareness is the benefit of an effective movement education. When someone is found in an inadequate posture it is usually because of a bad ergonomic condition or lack of knowledge about the adequate attitude.
Latco, worried to eliminate the “posture addiction” among its collaborators, does a periodic postural evaluation, seeking any alteration that might compromise their health. This program has the purpose to individually follow up and guide each collaborator. Therefore, once a month each collaborator show up at the evaluation room to check the arterial pressure, weight, height, cardiac frequency, breathing frequency, to all possible orientations or to direct them to a specific professional.
• Improvement of the Life and Health Quality Program
The implementation of life quality programs brings about changes on the qualification of the workers. It also demands a higher participation, taking part and identification with the company’s goals. Besides that, these programs help to diminish work injuries and even increase the productivity.
Latco is very concerned to promote actions that improve its collaborator’s life quality, since both can benefit with this attitude. Therefore, in a monthly base, trainings are held as well as educative lectures, with professionals from specific areas about themes such as health, food, stress, and how to deal with the possible pathologies already installed, and how to prevent from them.
• Posture Education Program in the Company
Because of the considerable number of posture dysfunctions, back aches and injuries of repetitive efforts that take hold of the workers on their duties, the PEP – Posture Education Program is responsible to guide and prevent these harms, helping to achieve a better life quality for each one of them.
At Latco the PEP is done during the laboral activity, at the place where each collaborator is, with the intention of always improve the laboral positioning, and the orientation of how to perform the activities avoiding possible injuries and work accidents.
• Ergonomic Analysis at Work
Latco performs, annually, an Ergonomic Analysis at Work. This procedure is done as determined by the Brazilian Work Ministry, and seek the adaptation of the duty to man, always concerned about the heath and well-being of its collaborators, avoiding RSI and work related osteomuscular disease, bringing about a better work condition to its collaborators.
By this, it is performed the evaluation of many aspects such as the time period of the work journey, each collaborator’s role, duty cycle, the number of movements, the pauses, the inadequate postures, the muscle effort and the necessary rhythms to perform the duty, as well as the type of toll and all work equipments. The objective is to verify the work conditions of a specific duty, observing many of the aspects related to them, so it can provide maximum comfort, safety and efficient performance.
• Ambulatory of Physiotherapy in the Company
It is in progress the implementation of the Ambulatory of Physiotherapy at all Latco factories, which has the goal of performing Physiotherapy procedures to avoid possible injuries that could get more serious, as well as directing them to the competent professional.
